Whether it’s date night or family night in the city, seeing one of these holiday classics is the perfect way to get a taste of Chicago’s theatre scene while also snuggling up to your favorite holiday tale.

“The Nutcracker”

November 30th to December 29th

What better way to begin the Holiday season than with the childhood favorite and timeless classic: The Nutcracker! Telling the story of a small girl waking up on Christmas Eve to a world of dancing sugar plums and wicked mouse kings, this two-act ballet is a consistent treat among those who want to be visually blown away.

Hang out this holiday season with Scrooge and his band of ghostly companions with the Dickens favorite Christmas tale. Scrooge is an irritable contester of Christmas but not for long in this classic story of Christmas cheer and the true meaning of the holiday. Whether it’s your first or fifteenth time you’ve enjoyed the story, the Goodman theatre is sure to give an adaptation that you’ll be cheerful about for quite some time.

The Santaland Diaries

November 29th to December 29th

Hey, we get it, Christmas isn’t everyone’s cup of eggnog. It certainly isn’t famous author and writer David Sedaris’; which is why he wrote an entire one-man show detailing his horrendous experience as a department store elf. Detailing the humorously dark side of the holiday season, “The Santaland Diaries” is a hilarious tale of greed, retail nightmare, and the other side of the holiday experience as told by a not-so-cheerful Santa helper.
