59th Annual UChicago Folk Festival

Home to some of the most unique and diverse events, Chicago continues to bring in an assortment of activities in the new year.  If you’re looking to try something new and highly rewarding, then check out the 59th Annual UChicago Folk Festival. This festival has proven to be one of the nation’s top folk festivals. With amazing performances and free workshops, see everything the University of Chicago Folklore Society has to offer. Festival Details

The 59th Annual UChicaco Folk Festival is one event you can count on returning to the city in 2019. The folk festival will take place on Friday, Feb 15 starting at 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, Feb 16 at 7:30 p.m. This year, expect to see performers such as T’Monde. They’re a Cajun rocking trio with unique Creole ballads, waltzes and bayou soul songs. Known for their traditional bluegrass style, The Price Sisters, will be showcasing their special sibling bond with harmonizing vocals and strings. The Fat Babies, don’t let the name fool you, will be combining classic styles of the 20’s & 30’s with their personalized upbeat style. Click here for a full list of performers click here. Tickets to UChicago Folk Festival

Tickets for the Folk Festival won’t last long, so don’t wait to purchase your tickets! For opening day, Friday Feb 15, admission will be $25 (regular), $20 (seniors) and $10 (college students). On Saturday Feb 16, tickets will be $30 (regular), $25 (seniors) and $10 (college students). Group tickets are also available at $12 apiece for Friday and $15 apiece for Saturday (minimum of 15 tickets). Tickets can be purchased by calling the box office at (773)702-2787 or mail in your order form to the UChicago Arts Box Office.

UChicago Folk Festival: Throughout the Years

The University of Chicago Folklore Society was formed in the early 1950s and put on its first Folk Festival in 1961. Featuring notable guests like Ralph and Carter Stanley to Willie Dixon, the Folk Fest has had many great artists grace the Mendel Hall Stage over the years. Since then, the festival has been held every winter since 1961. Committed to blending the best traditional music from around the world, the Folklore Society has truly shaped the national folk music scene.
